Features of the petrol cultivator include a heavy duty chain case, adjustable handlebars, individually replaceable tines with full width steel rubber mounted tine guards for operator protection and safety, a built in lifting handle, a drag bar (used to control the depth and speed at which the cultivator will dig into the ground) and a transport wheel (not required at any point during actual ground cultivation).
Before any tilling can be carried out, the ground must be cleared of long grass, cleared of any objects such as stones or bricks that would damage the tiller and ensure the ground is not hard (especially after a spell of dry weather).
What is tilling? Tilling is simply turning over and breaking up the soil, exactly how deep you till and how fine you break up the soil depends on your reason for tilling. Why till? Tilling is needed if you are mixing amendments into the soil, it is also helpful if you have compacted soil that needs to be broken up or any type of soil that needs to be broken into finer bits for planting seeds, tilling also removes weeds and undesirable roots from the soil.
